Reflections on culture, faith and the good news of Jesus as the kingdom of God comes to Oxford and Ole Miss. "For Christ's love compels us..." II Corinthians 5:14

Rambling prayers and the best kind of tired.

Lord, raise up students on Sunday who want to be disciples on Monday.

"Though hope is frail, it's hard to kill." Prince of Egypt

To go with the hugs comment yesterday, I got to the end of the day wiped out, weary and tired. Can I say it another way???

And yet, it was not like doing taxes or yard work or cleaning the house or even serving in a non-glamorous way.

This was the best kind of tired because it was mission work, frontline work, storming the gates of Hell kind of work. Evil retreated, joy transformed our lives and those we hugged. The light shined in the darkness and the darkness may not have understood it, but it shined nevertheless.
God Almighty, thank you for giving me such a mission, that even when I'm tired and worn out and ready to rest, I am grateful, joy, excited and eager to see what else you have in store!

free hugs, full hearts

Tuesday, April 15, 2008 Share: |

So we gave out a lot of free hugs and free coffee today.
I get very anxious before these events where we're on campus trying to reach out to so many students and yet, EVERYTIME, I am amazed at how God prepared the way for us. Meeting new and old students, showing the love of Christ in something as silly as a hug!
It really made my heart full of joy to see our students giving out these hugs and how they affected the lives of over 1000 students in such a positive Christian way.
Awesome...must be God!

Little Children

Friday, April 04, 2008 Share: |

Took Miles with me to see two of our senior saints in Graceland last week. I thought it would help me reach out and have more to talk about.
I had forgotten the power little children had over our seniors. Everywhere room we walked past, every face I saw, everyone was smiling and trying to talk to Miles. He, of course, was unaware. He was just being little and cute.

Reminded me of Anna the prophetess in Luke who beholds Jesus as a baby and sings for joy in his presence. Not that Miles is Jesus, but they have both been little children in the eyes of the world. That day, Miles brought a reminder of hope, a reminder of grandchildren to others. A reminder that children keep us young and smiling and hopeful that this world can be better and that the next world will definitely be better.
Truly, a bundle of joy!
