Reflections on culture, faith and the good news of Jesus as the kingdom of God comes to Oxford and Ole Miss. "For Christ's love compels us..." II Corinthians 5:14

Another Arkansas boy to Mississippi!

I can't believe Houston Nutt is coming to Ole Miss. I was pretty sad last night watching him resign...felt empty...like I was losing a good friend...like we were breaking up. And today my brother calls and says he's coming to Ole Miss...UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Still not sure if this is wise...I can't imagine leaving my HOGS to lead a bunch of Rebels. I guess if a campus minister can do it, surely a football coach can too. :)

I'm hoping to find a way to meet him sometime just to let him know he's got some support in Oxford...even if things are hard here. Sounds like the athletic administration is quick to pull the trigger around here for firing so this may not work out for long, but today it's a nice thought. Hopefully he'll get a fresh start here, hopefully he'll get Ole Miss winning some games next year and then there will be two Arkansas boys that Ole Miss will have to put up with for a while! :)

The kingdom of God is like kudzu

Monday, November 05, 2007 Share: |

If Jesus was living in our day, he would have used parables that connected to our context. I've imagined him saying something like what I wrote here. What do you think about this modern day parable?

"What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? The kingdom of God is like kudzu, which appears as a small vine. Yet as it grows, it spreads out to cover and overtake anything in its path."

Any guesses as to how this parable reveals something about the kingdom?

You might be interested in a new study on the parables at www.modernparable.com. (Thought I'd say something since my sister was a '96 reb.)
