You will always have a father.

This weekend I will preach my first Father's Day sermon ever. It is a little intimidating since I am not yet a father. I have no first-hand experience to offer the 300 + people who hope to hear a word from God. But I am a son which means I have a father which means I understand the father/son relationship a little bit. So I will be preaching from the perspective of a son.
Just as an FYI, I hope we realize that we have catered to our culture in some way by preaching and expecting Father's Day sermons. So it has recently confused me why we are so resistant to cater to culture at Christmas. Many/some churches refuse to acknowledge Christmas from the pulpit but always have the Mother's Day/Father's Day sermon ready.
But even though we will talk about fathers, it is still a sermon not a hallmark card that will be preached! There is still gospel to be found on this special day.
Why is gospel needed? Why can't we just celebrate our fathers? Take a minute and think about the families you know. How many still have their fathers? How many fathers have remained faithful to their family? How many people have the perfect earthly father?
I think there will be many people who come with sadness, anger or dread to this day. What a perfect opportunity to hear gospel. For it tends to be in our moments of need that we are most ready to hear good news. I hope very much that is what people hear this Sunday.
Sorry it has been so long since I wrote. I should probably have a goal of writing once a week. Thanks to those who keep coming back and hoping. :)

Good job Case! (I'm not biased in any way at all, no sirree!)
I'm glad you wrote. It's the summer, and not many people are reading anyway, so it's no big deal.
I'll be there to listen on Sunday.
it is about time you posted something... hehehehehe
Well I didn't get to hear a Father's Day sermon, our sermon was on having a passion for Christ. Being strong when it comes to being a Christian. (one of my first non father's day sermons)
I am sure that you did fine and that everyone got a lot out of it.
see you in a little over a week.
