A Third Option

Monday, March 28, 2005 Share: |

In Counter Culture this past week, we spoke about the issue of homosexuality. We discussed how to think abou it with a countercultural worldview. One worldly option is to hate, dehumanize and disrespect the sinner trapped in sin. This option was expressed this past week by someone claiming to follow Jesus. The other option is to totally accept and welcome the sinner and sin as is--to accept a lifestyle as one of many possibilities that are all equally good.

The Christian holds a powerfully different, third option. Christians do not hate the sinner, but rather love the sinner, realizing that we sin too. But Christians also do not just tolerate the homosexual as is. We do not believe that all paths and lifestyles are equally good. Somewhere between hate and tolerance is the Christian call to show love and tell the truth at the same time. This is countercultural!

Do I dare try again?

Thursday, March 24, 2005 Share: |

Dear bloggers,
My sincerest apologies to all who have glanced at my blog from time-to-time OVER THE PAST MONTH and received nothing new from me.:) I really like blogging but somedays it becomes a burden and I just don't do it.

One of my biggest distractions has been the purchase of a house. Tracey and I will close in late April but it has really taken a lot of my extra time that I might devote to writing.

I have discovered that I feel this mysterious pressure from outside of me whenever I don't write because I know people are checking my blog and finding nothing. It is hard to meet everyone's expectations.

Thankfully, I know you love me anyway. And your love for me in this very small instance seems to be a microcosm of God's love for us.
Whatever the burdens are in life, God's love remains constant. Whenever there are distractions that take away from him and his work, God still loves us, hoping that his love will obliterate the distractions so that we can see clearly again. And at the end of the day, when we didn't meet everybody's expectations of us, disappointed people, said the wrong thing, or feel unlovable, we can fall into the loving arms of a Father who loves us still because we are his child. And nothing can change that.

I think I'll try again...thanks to your love and God's.
